I consider that voting page to be a great data mining spot. Sick and tired of providing information for marketing research, sales pitch and junk mail (electronic and snail). Needless is to say, they lost my vote.

I can hear you out on that one David. I can usually thwart the spam (junk mail) on those kind of forms by using an alternate e-mail address dedicating to registration forms, and account subscriptions, but the data mining is ever so pervasive these days.
I particularly dislike having to register to read articles on sites like NY Times, and then have to fill in whatever is considered “required” data. I don’t particularly mind that the thought that my age group, sex, or preferences might be accumulated in a database to help them determine which advertising is best suited to their site, but it’s an annoying waste of time — and are they really so naive as to believe that any of the data collected is in any way accurate (I usually just click to the first available choice in any list, or type in anything that will let me get done with the form as quickly as possible, as I’m sure everyone else does too).
